A complete line covers orbital tube and pipe cutting, tube facing and pipe beveling, pipe stands and fit-up clamps, orbital TIG / automated spool welding, argon purging with oxygen ppm monitoring, electrochemical weld cleaning, passivation and passivation testing. MSC supplies every stage from one source.
Without an inert argon purge, the inside of the weld oxidises (sugaring / heat tint), which reduces corrosion resistance and can contaminate high-purity process fluids. Purge plugs or inflatable dams with a weld purge monitor keep residual oxygen low and verifiable, giving oxide-free roots.
Citrisurf is a citric-acid based passivation treatment for stainless steel. It removes free iron and restores the protective chromium-oxide layer after welding and cleaning, and is a safer alternative to nitric-acid passivation for pipes, fittings and spools.
Passivation can be checked with a digital passivation tester such as Passi Test, and free-iron contamination with a copper sulphate test. Results can be logged and reported for project documentation.
